Okay, today was my last pre-triathalon workout. I ran about 6 miles, which felt pretty good. I had been planning to do a swim this morning in the delightful waters of our fair San Francisco Bay, but I ran instead. I needed the sleep, and besides, I was scared. That water sucks ass. Anyway, we’ll see what happens on Sunday.
Yesterday, I went with the gang to Morpho Sushi on Union Street, where they have a great $20 all-you-can-eat sushi deal on Wednesdays. Pretty cool, except that everyone ate too much, and there was much talk on the drive home about the pleasures of bulimia.

Well, I bought a wetsuit for $20 bucks and went with Rich and Sean to Chrissy Field, where I hopped into the water and tested out my finely honed swimming abilities. Needless to say, I nearly drowned. The water in the bay was something like 55 deg F, and as soon as I entered, even with my wetsuit and neoprene cap, I was gasping for air. I tried to do the freestyle I’ve been practicing, but it’s hard to swim freestyle when you can’t breathe. Anyway, I think I swam about 800 yards, but most of it was doggy paddle, and I think I swallowed about 3 cups of algae infested ocean water.

Some of the fish that we eat everyday are overfished, or caught or farmed in ways that are bad for the enviornment. Want to know which ones? Want to know why? See the
Monterey Bay Aquarium: Seafood Watch Program – A Consumer’s Guide to Sustainable Seafood They have a great site, including printable wallet sized “Choices for Healthy Oceans” cards.

So last night I went with Jason and Sarah to a remake of Pink Floyd’s the Wall. Their tennant was the keyboardist. It was great, with an eclectic tattooed crowd sitting in a big room that felt like a high school auditorium. I’m still not quite sure what the Wall is about, but it was well done, and looked like it would have been great fun to be in. After it was over, and I was about to leave, in came the The EXTRA ACTION MARCHING BAND, which is easily the greatest marching band ever. They are a guerrilla marching band who inhabit the world “traditional marching band and ecstatic turmoil.”

Angel Island – Did you know that for over six thousand years, Angel Island was used by the Miwok Indians as a fishing and hunting site? Well now it’s a state park, and it’s one of many cool Bay Area sites that my lazy ass never made it to in the 11 years I’ve been here. I’m going this Saturday, anyone want to come?

So I signed up for a triathalon. Information about the event can be found here. Notice that I get a free swimcap, just for subjecting myself to potential drowning!
