Arnold speaks! “At the same time, though, we generally manage to have a good time. Bodybuilders party a lot, and once, in Gold’s – the gym in Venice, California, where all the top guys train – there was a black girl who came out naked. Everybody jumped on her and took her upstairs, where we all got together.” This and other amazing tales from an old interview of Arnold from Oui here. Sweet!

I did not make this up!“A 52-year-old unmarried bag craftsman was admitted to East Tokyo Metropolitan Hospital because of a large scrotal hematoma. He had accidentally hit his right testis against the edge of a desk early the previous morning. He had resected his right testis with scissors to release from severe pain 30 min after the accident. He had sutured the scrotal incision with two stitches of string by himself. At the emergency operation 36 h after the self-mutilation, we removed a hematoma weighing 283 g and ligated the cut end of the right spermatic cord after adequate debridement. He was diagnosed by a psychiatrist as having slightly low intelligence without psychotic disorder or drug abuse.” E-mail me if you would like the actual article, which I will warn you, is not for the squeamish.

Salon.com | Big lies: “If Americans have a common fault, however, it’s our tendency to suffer from historical amnesia. Too many of us have forgotten, or never learned, what kind of country America was under the conservative rule that preceded the century of liberal reform. And too many of us have no idea whose ideas and energy brought about the reforms we now take for granted.
If your workplace is safe; if your children go to school rather than being forced into labor; if you are paid a living wage, including overtime; if you enjoy a 40-hour week and you are allowed to join a union to protect your rights — you can thank liberals. If your food is not poisoned and your water is drinkable — you can thank liberals. If your parents are eligible for Medicare and Social Security, so they can grow old in dignity without bankrupting your family — you can thank liberals. If our rivers are getting cleaner and our air isn’t black with pollution; if our wilderness is protected and our countryside is still green — you can thank liberals. If people of all races can share the same public facilities; if everyone has the right to vote; if couples fall in love and marry regardless of race; if we have finally begun to transcend a segregated society — you can thank liberals. Progressive innovations like those and so many others were achieved by long, difficult struggles against entrenched power. What defined conservatism, and conservatives, was their opposition to every one of those advances. The country we know and love today was built by those victories for liberalism — with the support of the American people.”
Yahoo! News – Bush, Advisers: ‘We’re Upbeat’ on Economy: “‘The Bush policy is the worst policy in the last 200 years,’ said George A. Akerlof, a 2001 Nobel laureate in economics. ‘Within 10 years we are going to pay a serious price for such irresponsibility.’ “
