NEWS FLASH! I am starting the South Beach Diet today. For those of you who don’t know what it is, it’s a diet created by a cardiologist in Miami named Arthur Agatston to improve the blood chemistry of his patients. Specifically, he was looking for a way to decrease bad cholesterol (LDL) and triglycerides while increasing good cholesterol (HDL). I just so happens to also be a good for weight loss.

In some ways, it’s similar to the Atkins diet, except that it pays more attention to the type of fats you consume (less bacon) and allows you more carbohydrates. However, this diet also constricts the amount of carbs you eat; especially processed ones like in white bread. During the first (of 3) phases, you aren’t allowed to eat very many carbs, but it’s a progressive diet in that there are three phases. The second two phases allow you to phase in some of your favorite carbs back. Anyhoo, you’re supposed to lose 8-14 lbs during the first 2 weeks, which is good, since my school lethargy and achilles tendon crippledom have caused me to become more buttery. More updates are on their way!
